Annual Testing & Servicing

Backflow Prevention Valves

Backflow prevention valves should be maintained and tested regularly to ensure they are operating properly. A malfunctioning backflow device can leak contaminated fluids into the local water supply, which can cause serious problems.

Our team are fully qualified and licenced to complete your annual backflow testing. We will attend site with our Backflow Prevention Test Kit, complete the test and submit the legislated form to council, all in accordance with the Australian Standards. We will also provide you with a personalised report detailing any failed valves and advice for repairs or replacement.

What is backflow?

Backflow is the flow of water in the opposite direction within a plumbing system. It is where a reversal of contaminated fluids can enter the main water supply line of a property. This is a serious problem as the contaminated water can include wastewater, sewerage, chemicals or other foreign matter.

To reduce the risk of backflow contaminating water, some properties will have a backflow prevention device installed. The valve is put in place to stop contaminated water entering into the main water supply. These valves need regular testing and maintenance to ensure they are working correctly.

Backflow Testing

It is recommended that all backflow prevention valves be tested and maintained annually.

We use a testing kit with a digital differential pressure gauge, which has a 316 stainless steel body complete with brass fittings and valves. Our test kit has a Calibration Test Certificate tested to AS/NZS 2845.3:2020. After testing our licenced plumber will complete a legislated Form 9 to be submitted to local council within 10 days of completing the testing. We will also provide you with a personalised report of any failed valves and our recommendation of whether to repair or replace the valve.

Thermostatic Mixing Valves

Thermostatic mixing valves should be maintained and tested regularly to ensure they are operating properly. These valves are essential in maintaining a safe outlet of water temperature in order to prevent scalding, so it is important they are working correctly to avoid serious injury.

The Peters Plumbing and Drainage team are fully licenced to complete TMV testing, which should be completed annually. We will attend site, complete a TMV test and complete a service report promptly.

What is a Thermostatic Mixing Valve?

A TMV is a valve that combines hot and cold water to maintain a specific water temperature. The Australian Standard for hot water systems requires water to be at a temperature that will minimise the risk of scalding.; therefore, a TMV is necessary to ensure the appropriate water temperature is achieved.

Thermostatic mixing valves are incredibly important for the safety of you, your family, and your workplace. Water that is over 50℃ can cause serious burns; in fact, a child can suffer third degree burns in as little as one second if they are exposed to water at that temperature or above.

Thermostatic Mixing Valve Installation and Testing:

It is important to remember that a plumber must have a TMV licence to install and test a TMV

The Australian Standard 4032.3 states that TMVs are tested and serviced annually. If a TMV does not pass the test, it can be repaired or replaced if necessary.
